Remembering Eugene "Gene" Russell Simmons: A Life Well-Lived

Eugene "Gene" Russell Simmons, 92, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on October 12, 1933, in Mansfield, Gene was a dedicated member of Mansfield Tire for 25 years before starting his own construction business, Built Right Construction. Even in retirement, Gene stayed active, finding joy in helping others and staying busy around his property. He was known for his integrity, kindness, and faith, being a member of the Perry First Church of Christ.
Gene enjoyed traveling, water skiing, and spending time with his loved ones. He is survived by his companion Nora Goodrich, son Larry Simmons, sisters Marilyn King and Darlene Elliott, grandchildren Scott, Steve, Sam, Allison, and Catrina, and great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Chloe, Olivia, Samson, Cora, and Riah. Gene also leaves behind friends, including his former business partner Charlie Daniels, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his children Brenda Johnson and Gary Simmons, and brothers Jack Anderson and Bill Hissner.
