From Horseback Riding with Springsteen to Solo Shows in Japan: Eddie Vedder's Musical Journey

Eddie Vedder, the lead singer of Pearl Jam, recently appeared on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show to discuss his new documentary, Matter Of Time. During the show, Vedder shared a story about a horseback riding experience he had with Bruce Springsteen at the Boss's New Jersey ranch. Despite being terrified of horses, Vedder attempted to ride one with Springsteen, only to have the horse bolt and head off the trail into the forest. With guidance from others, Vedder managed to stay on the horse until it finally stopped. Springsteen's wife, Patti Scialfa, remarked on the odd behavior of the horse, but Vedder ultimately impressed Springsteen with his horsemanship skills.

Following the incident, Vedder performed Springsteen's song "My City Of Ruins" at the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors and at subsequent Pearl Jam concerts and solo shows. Pearl Jam has a history of covering Springsteen's songs and Vedder has joined Springsteen as a special guest at some of the Boss's shows. While Pearl Jam has not announced any tour plans for 2026, Vedder has scheduled four solo shows in Japan in April, including performances in Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo. Despite his fear of horses, Vedder's adventurous spirit and musical talents continue to captivate audiences around the world.
