Wolfgang Van Halen Shares Insights on Album Writing Process and Future Plans for MAMMOTH
Former VAN HALEN bassist and current MAMMOTH frontman Wolfgang Van Halen shared insights on his album writing process during a recent interview. He mentioned that his focus is currently on touring, but he plans to start working on the next MAMMOTH album in the second quarter of 2027. Wolfgang has around 30 ideas for songs that he has been intermittently working on, with some ideas dating back to the early days of MAMMOTH. Despite having a pool of existing ideas, he anticipates creating new songs before hitting the studio. On tour, Wolfgang prefers to relax by playing video games or resting on days off.
MAMMOTH's latest album, "The End," was released in October and showcases Wolfgang's growth as a musician and songwriter. Recorded at the renowned 5150 studio and produced by Michael "Elvis" Baskette, the album features ten tracks that highlight Wolfgang's musical prowess. Wolfgang, who handles all songwriting and performs all instruments and vocals, aimed to challenge himself beyond his previous releases. The album includes fan-favorite tracks like "Same Old Song," "Happy," and "Selfish," blending seamlessly with older hits from MAMMOTH.
MAMMOTH embarked on their first headlining tour of 2026 in March, with stops across the United States and Canada. The tour features support from 10 YEARS and JAMES AND THE COLD GUN. The band's lineup includes Wolfgang on guitar and vocals, Frank Sidoris, Jon Jourdan, Garrett Whitlock, and Ronnie Ficarro. MAMMOTH's debut album, "Mammoth WVH," debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 in 2021, earning critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination. Their sophomore release, "Mammoth II," continued the success, debuting in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Album Sales chart.
Wolfgang's musical journey has seen him perform with renowned artists like METALLICA, FOO FIGHTERS, and CREED, in addition to solo performances on popular TV shows. His dynamic presence on stage and evolving songwriting skills have garnered praise from industry publications and fans alike.
