Braxton Jones Returns to Chicago Bears on One-Year Deal: A Look at the Offensive Line Battle Ahead

Left tackle Braxton Jones has reached an agreement to rejoin the Chicago Bears on a one-year contract worth a maximum of $10 million. The 26-year-old offensive lineman was the first lineman drafted by Bears GM Ryan Poles, selected in the fifth round in 2022 from Southern Utah. Jones started 17 games at left tackle in his rookie season but faced injuries in 2023 and 2024, limiting him to a total of 23 games over two seasons, all at left tackle.
Heading into the 2025 season on a contract year after recovering from an ankle injury, Jones faced competition for his position. The Bears drafted Ozzy Trapilo with the 56th pick, setting the stage for a significant position battle along the offensive line. During training camp, Jones vied for the left tackle spot against Trapilo, Kiran Amegadjie, and Theo Benedet. Despite starting the season as the left tackle, Jones was benched during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jones' return to the Bears on a one-year deal provides stability and experience to the team's offensive line. With his previous starting experience and familiarity with the Bears' system, Jones will look to solidify his role and contribute to the team's success in the upcoming season.
