Empowering LGBTQIA+ Youth: EJ Johnson's Support for Zaya Wade and Translatable

EJ Johnson, the child of basketball icon Magic Johnson, shared their experiences growing up as a queer and gender-fluid individual, relating to Zaya Wade, the transgender daughter of former NBA player Dwyane Wade. EJ, who prefers they/them pronouns but is also comfortable with "she," publicly came out in 2013, while Zaya came out as transgender at the age of 12 in 2020. Despite their different identities, EJ expressed solidarity with Zaya and offered support if needed. They highlighted the challenges of facing criticism and negativity from others based on their authentic selves, emphasizing the importance of living one's truth. EJ also mentioned the launch of Translatable, a platform created by Zaya and her father to provide a safe online space for LGBTQIA+ youth.
