Former University of Kentucky Student Indicted in Connection with Baby's Death: Details of the Case

A former University of Kentucky student, Laken Snelling, has been indicted in connection with the death of her baby. The charges include abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, concealing the birth of an infant, and manslaughter. The case began when Lexington Police responded to an unresponsive infant found in a closet on Park Avenue. The baby boy was pronounced dead at the scene, wrapped in a towel inside a trash bag. Snelling, who was a senior at UK and a member of the stunt team at the time of her arrest, has since withdrawn from the university. She has been on house arrest in Tennessee since her case was sent to the grand jury in September 2025. The Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office determined that the infant was born alive and died from asphyxia by undetermined means.
