The 17th TCM Classic Film Festival: Celebrating Global Cinema in Hollywood

The 17th edition of the TCM Classic Film Festival is set to kick off with a special screening of the 1967 romantic comedy "Barefoot in the Park," featuring Jane Fonda and honoring Robert Redford. The festival, themed "The World Comes to Hollywood," will take place in Hollywood from April 30 to May 3, celebrating the global influence on the filmmaking industry in the West Coast.

Actress Barbara Hershey and songwriter Paul Williams will be recognized with career tributes during the festival. Hershey will be present for screenings of "Hannah and Her Sisters" and "A World Apart," while Williams will attend showings of "The Muppet Movie" and "Ishtar." Additionally, Bruce Goldstein will receive the Robert Osborne Award for his contributions to preserving classic films.

The opening night presentation of "Barefoot in the Park" will pay homage to the enduring appeal of the film and Robert Redford's impactful career in the entertainment industry. TCM host Ben Mankiewicz expressed the significance of having Jane Fonda honor her late co-star at the festival's commencement.

Goldstein will be recognized before a screening of Federico Fellini's "Nights of Cabiria," highlighting his dedication to showcasing international cinema through repertory programming and restoration efforts. The festival will also feature anniversary screenings of classic films like "Alice in Wonderland," "A Place in the Sun," and "The Day the Earth Stood Still," among others.
