Heidi Fleiss Challenges County Regulations to Advocate for Bird Freedom in Las Vegas

Heidi Fleiss, a former Hollywood madam, is facing county restrictions on her plan to house and release around 30 wild birds at her new home in Las Vegas. Despite serving time in prison in the late 1990s, Fleiss recently purchased a home in the southeast Las Vegas valley with a spacious yard suitable for the birds. However, the county has limited her to housing only 20 Macaws and prohibited her from releasing them outdoors due to the proximity of her home to Reid Airport, which poses a bird strike hazard. Fleiss, unaware of these rules, intends to challenge the county's regulations with the help of her legal team to allow her birds to live freely.
Clark County Code permits the exercise of racing or homing pigeons in free flight for up to one hour daily but does not allow the release of Macaws. Despite being informed by Animal Protection Services about the bird strike area restrictions, Fleiss remains determined to advocate for her birds' well-being and fight against what she perceives as outdated and inhumane rules. She believes that raising awareness about this issue is crucial and hopes to engage in a fact-based argument with the county to change the regulations that prevent her birds from enjoying the outdoors.
Fleiss is confident that the county will eventually reconsider its stance and is prepared to make personal sacrifices to ensure the welfare of her birds. She introduced four of her Macaws, Roscoe and Charlie, to her backyard, where they joined the existing pair, Gin and Juice, and seemed to enjoy their new environment. Fleiss emphasized the birds' positive response to their new surroundings and expressed her commitment to fighting for their freedom and well-being, even if it means facing opposition.
In addition to her efforts to challenge the county's restrictions, Fleiss revealed that she is collaborating with Netflix on a documentary about her life and experiences. Despite the obstacles she faces, Fleiss remains dedicated to her cause and determined to advocate for the rights of her feathered companions.
