Actor Billy Porter recently shared the intense details of a life-threatening medical emergency he faced last fall, revealing that he was “dead for three days” and relied on life support. During a podcast appearance, Porter recounted how a routine medical check in September 2025 quickly turned into a fight for his life. A kidney stone trapped in his urethra led to a severe infection that progressed to urosepsis, a type of sepsis originating in the urinary tract. Porter slipped into a coma and required an ECMO machine for life support. Following his awakening, doctors diagnosed him with compartment syndrome in his leg, necessitating emergency surgery to save it. Despite having to step down from a Broadway role, Porter has since made a full recovery and expressed deep gratitude for the lessons learned during his ordeal. He emphasized the importance of working smarter, being obedient, and always telling the truth.
