Say Goodbye to Rio: Jamie Foxx's Animated Movies Leaving Netflix Soon

Two animated movies featuring the voice of Jamie Foxx will be removed from Netflix's content library next month. Directed by Carlos Saldanha, the filmmaker behind the Ice Age trilogy, subscribers have a limited time to stream these films on the platform. Rio and Rio 2 will no longer be available on Netflix starting Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The first movie, Rio, tells the story of Blu, a blue macaw raised by Linda, who embarks on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro to meet Jewel, a female macaw. The two birds are later kidnapped by smugglers, leading to a thrilling escape through the coastal city. In Rio 2, Blu, Jewel, and their children journey to the Amazon in search of other macaws, facing challenges in the wild and encountering a vengeful cockatoo named Nigel.

The voice cast includes Jamie Foxx as Nico, Jesse Eisenberg as Blu, Anne Hathaway as Jewel, and Jemaine Clement as Nigel. Carlos Saldanha directed and co-wrote both films, initially considering a penguin storyline before focusing on macaws. Eisenberg, who played Blu, shared in an interview that recording for the role provided a fun contrast to his serious character in The Social Network.

Released in 2011 and 2014, Rio and Rio 2 were box office hits, grossing over $480 million each. The first movie even received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. Don't miss the chance to watch these beloved animated films before they leave Netflix's streaming platform in April.
