Shakey Graves Announces Fifth Studio Album 'Fondness, Etc.' and New Single 'Time Flies

Shakey Graves, a talented DIY musician and singer-songwriter from the United States, has announced the upcoming release of his fifth studio album, Fondness, Etc., set to be released on May 15th on Secret Identity / Dualtone Records. The album is described as a blend of woozy folk and indie rock, reflecting Graves' personal journey through family and fatherhood. Alongside the album announcement, Graves has released a new single titled Time Flies, a cover of Frankie Sunswept's love song, featuring a string quartet arrangement by David J. Pierce and a guitar solo by Zeke Jarmon (Batty Jr.). UK tour dates, including The Long Road Festival, are also in the works, with tickets available for purchase and album preorders open.
Graves shares his inspiration for the single, stating his vision of creating a zero-budget Roy Orbison '50s pop record and choosing to include a cover song by an old friend, Frankie Sunswept. The song Time Flies resonated with Graves since he first heard it in 2007 and felt it was a perfect fit for this project, capturing the essence of a radio hit from his imagination.
The fifth studio album features nine intimate folk-inspired tracks, all produced by Graves in his home studio using vintage Tascam tape machines. The lo-fi recording process allowed for unique musical artifacts to shape the sound, including a possibly haunted 1932 Gibson guitar that survived a World War II bunker fire. Graves reflects on the creative process, emphasizing the importance of committing to a sound and embracing imperfections that add character to the music.
Graves acknowledges the valuable lesson learned during the recording of this album, emphasizing the freedom in music-making and the significance of capturing a moment in time through tape recordings. The album serves as a reminder that there is no right or wrong way to create music, as long as it resonates with the artist and captures a genuine expression of their artistry.
Having emerged from Austin's DIY music scene as a one-man band, Graves has cultivated a dedicated following through his unique sound, relentless touring, and fan-centric experiences. The upcoming UK tour in 2026, including performances at The Long Road Festival and venues in Glasgow, Manchester, and London, continues Graves' musical journey and connection with his audience.
