Tom Cruise Eyed for Antagonist Role in Joseph Kosinski's 'Miami Vice' Movie Adaptation

A recent report suggests that Tom Cruise is being considered for the antagonist role in Joseph Kosinski's upcoming movie adaptation of the popular 1980s TV series "Miami Vice" at Universal Pictures. The screenplay for the film was written by Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer, and it will delve into the glitz and corruption of mid-1980s Miami, focusing on two undercover detectives. The movie draws inspiration from the pilot episode and the initial season of the influential television show produced by Michael Mann.
Michael Mann, known for directing Cruise in the 2004 film "Collateral," previously helmed a gritty modern reboot of "Miami Vice" in 2006. The new adaptation is set to capture the essence of the original series while bringing a fresh perspective to the story. Austin Butler is reportedly in negotiations to play the lead role of James 'Sonny' Crockett, with Michael B. Jordan in talks to portray his partner, undercover detective Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs.
If Tom Cruise joins the project, it would mark his third collaboration with Joseph Kosinski, following their work on "Oblivion" and "Top Gun: Maverick." Universal Pictures has slated the film for a theatrical release on August 6, 2027. The casting of Cruise in the villain role adds an exciting element to the highly anticipated adaptation of "Miami Vice."
