Florida State University Football Recruiting Update: #Tribe27 Class Progress and Recent Setback

Florida State University has been actively recruiting new players for its football team since the beginning of 2026. The Seminoles have been busy offering scholarships, meeting with recruits across the nation, and hosting potential players in Tallahassee.

Despite only securing one verbal commitment in the past four months, the recent changes in the coaching staff have brought hope that the #Tribe27 recruiting class will start to take shape soon. The team is currently in search of a running back to join the class, but a recent decision has forced them to reevaluate their options at the position.

Four-star running back Nigel Newkirk recently announced that he has narrowed down his college choices to six schools, excluding Florida State in favor of Miami, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan, and USC. Newkirk, who had been offered by FSU in December 2024, had previously visited the campus and was planning an official visit this summer.

During his junior year at Gainesville High School, Newkirk showcased his skills by rushing for 1,496 yards and 19 touchdowns, along with 12 receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown. He is ranked as the No. 6 running back in the 2027 Rivals300.

While Newkirk's decision is a setback for Florida State, the team is actively pursuing other running back prospects, including Jayden Miles, Brayden Tyson, Ty Keys, Marquis Fennell, and Brennen Lacey. The Seminoles currently have five verbal commitments in their 2027 class, which is ranked 19th in the country.

The committed players include three-star tight end Connor Winn, three-star defensive end Anthony Cavallaro, four-star linebacker Gregory Batson, four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams, and three-star defensive back Jemari Foreman. The team is optimistic about the future of their recruiting efforts and is focused on building a strong roster for the upcoming seasons.
