ICE to Assist TSA in Alleviating Long Security Checkpoint Lines at Airports

Long lines at TSA security checkpoints in Atlanta are causing frustration among travelers, with wait times reaching nearly 3 hours. The lines are extending through baggage claim and beyond, prompting travelers to arrive much earlier than usual.

White House border czar Tom Homan announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers will not be directly involved in airport security measures. Instead, ICE officials will assist TSA employees in specialized roles to help alleviate long wait times at airports.

Homan emphasized that ICE agents will not be operating X-ray machines but will focus on specific security tasks to support TSA efforts. A plan is being developed to prioritize airports with the longest wait times for ICE assistance.

President Donald Trump threatened to deploy ICE agents to US airports on Monday if an agreement to fund the Department of Homeland Security is not reached. The partial government shutdown has led to TSA staffing shortages, causing delays and disruptions for travelers.

As negotiations continue to reopen the Department of Homeland Security and resolve the funding issue, travelers are advised to expect ongoing delays at airports. The collaboration between ICE and TSA aims to improve security measures and streamline airport operations for a smoother travel experience.
