Bob Dylan's Acoustic Revival: A Night of Surprises at the Orpheum Theatre

Bob Dylan kicked off a new phase of his ongoing “Rough and Rowdy Ways” world tour with a surprise acoustic set at the Orpheum Theatre in Omaha, Nebraska. Departing from the electric format of his recent shows, Dylan presented stripped-back versions of songs from his 2020 album and revisited long-lost tracks in a revamped setlist.

The concert began with the familiar “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” but quickly transitioned into a rare performance of “The Man in the Long Black Coat” from his Oh Mercy album. Dylan’s acoustic renditions of classics like “All Along the Watchtower” and “I Contain Multitudes” captivated the audience, while also introducing lesser-known gems like “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” and a cover of Bo Diddley’s “I Can Tell”.

A standout moment of the night was Dylan’s live premiere of Eddie Cochran’s “Nervous Breakdown”, a rock ‘n’ roll classic that had never been part of his live repertoire before. Despite the ban on mobile phones at his shows, the performance has already been hailed as a significant milestone in Dylan’s musical journey.

The tour is set to continue until May 1, with a final show in Abilene, Texas, followed by additional summer performances. Dylan’s willingness to experiment with his setlist and embrace acoustic arrangements has added a new dimension to his live performances, showcasing his enduring creativity and versatility.
