Alessia Cara has embarked on a musical journey by reimagining her past to shape her future. Her latest album, Love Or Lack Thereof, features jazz and soul renditions of love and heartbreak songs from her previous albums, including Know-It-All, The Pains of Growing, In The Meantime, and Love & Hyperbole, as well as her hit collaboration with Zedd, "Stay."
Teaming up with a group of talented jazz musicians, Cara recorded the album live at Noble Street Studios in Toronto. The tracklist includes guest appearances from Grammy winners Nelly Furtado on "Shapeshifter" and Norah Jones on the new original song "I'm In Trouble."
In a social media post announcing the album, Cara expressed her desire to commemorate one year of Love & Hyperbole and ten years in the music industry. The album was put together in just over three days with the help of a skilled team. Cara's ability to seamlessly blend genres like pop, R&B, EDM, and hip-hop is evident in her music, with Love Or Lack Thereof showcasing her exploration of classic jazz elements.
With Love Or Lack Thereof, Cara delves deep into traditional sounds, reshaping her musical narrative along the way. The album features contributions from talented musicians like drummer Chino De Villam, bassist Marc Rogers, keyboardist Jon Levine, guitarist Robb Cappelleto, and trumpeter Alexis Baro. Produced by Jon Levine, the album was mixed by Joe Zook and mastered by Eric Boulanger.
