Forgotten Island": A Magical Animated Adventure Celebrating Friendship and Filipino Folklore
Dreamworks Animation has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming animated film "Forgotten Island." The story follows two best friends, Jo and Raissa, who discover a magical portal to places from Filipino folklore. Their friendship is tested as they navigate encounters with mythical creatures and try to find their way back home. The film is written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, drawing inspiration from their own friendship.
The trailer was revealed at Dreamworks HQ in Glendale, with the presence of the filmmakers, voice actors H.E.R and Liza Soberano. H.E.R, known for her music, makes her voice acting debut in the film, expressing excitement about the script that celebrates friendship and her Filipino heritage. Soberano also shared her enthusiasm for a project that accurately represents the Philippines while being relatable on a universal level.
Set in the 1990s, the film explores themes of friendship and nostalgia, capturing a time before cellphones and digital photography. The filmmakers aimed to push the boundaries of animation style, incorporating elements of anime and hand-drawn textures to enhance the fantasy aspect of the story. The voice cast includes Lea Salonga, Dave Franco, Manny Jacinto, and other talented actors.
