Culebro, with extensive experience in Mexican soccer, has held leadership positions at Tigres UANL and Club América. His new role will involve managing both the business and sporting aspects of Atlanta United and launching the NWSL team in the city.
Culebro's background in Liga MX and the Mexican Football Federation makes him well-suited for his new role in Atlanta. He is known for his success in leading both men's and women's teams to titles at Tigres and América. As the president of soccer at AMBSE, Culebro will be responsible for overseeing the operations of Atlanta United and spearheading the introduction of the NWSL expansion team, set to debut in 2028.
Following the departure of Garth Lagerwey, Mauricio Culebro will report to AMBSE CEO Rich McKay in his new position. The existing leadership team at Atlanta United, including Chris Henderson, Dimitrios Efstathiou, and Sarah Kate Noftsinger, will continue in their roles under Culebro's leadership. Culebro will collaborate with McKay and other AMBSE executives on hiring staff for the NWSL team and developing the team's training center and stadium modifications.
