Senators Sign Swedish Defenseman Gabriel Eliasson to Entry-Level Contract

The Ottawa Senators have signed defenseman Gabriel Eliasson to a three-year entry-level contract starting next season. Eliasson, a 19-year-old Swedish player, was selected 39th overall in the 2024 draft. Standing at 6'7" and weighing 220 lbs, he is known for his defensive skills and skating ability, making him a potential bottom-pairing and penalty-killing asset in the NHL. Despite not being highly ranked in prospect lists, Eliasson has played in North American juniors for the past two seasons, accumulating 15 points in 124 games with the OHL's Barrie Colts. He was also the most penalized player in the OHL this season.

Previously committed to the University of Michigan, Eliasson is now ineligible to play in the NCAA as he has signed an NHL contract. He is expected to start his professional career with the AHL's Belleville team in the fall, provided the Barrie Colts are still in the postseason at that time. The young defenseman's development and potential impact in the Senators' organization will be closely monitored as he transitions to the professional ranks.
