Bringing Broadway to the Big Screen: Hadestown: The Musical Film Release
Bleecker Street’s Crosswalk and LD Entertainment have acquired the live theater capture of the Tony-Award winning and West End musical Hadestown. The film, titled Hadestown: The Musical, is scheduled for a theatrical release in North America on July 24, 2026. The musical, created by Anais Mitchell, has received numerous accolades, including the 2019 Tony Award for best musical. The live capture was filmed in London and features original Broadway cast members, including Reeve Carney, Andre De Shields, Amber Gray, Eva Noblezada, and Patrick Page. Directed by Brett Sullivan, the film will also have a UK theatrical release.
Hadestown: The Musical, directed by Rachel Chavkin, intertwines the mythic love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone. The show, which originated as a concept album by Mitchell, blends American folk music and New Orleans-style jazz in its score. In addition to its successful Broadway and West End runs, Hadestown has been performed in various countries, including South Korea, Australia, and the Netherlands. The film's producers, Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy, are excited to bring this iconic performance to a wider audience through the big screen.
