Jarvis Butts, Convicted Murderer and Sexual Predator, Dies in Prison: Details of the Case Revealed

Jarvis Butts, the man convicted of the murder of Na'Ziyah Harris and multiple sexual assaults, has passed away while serving his prison sentence. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Butts was sentenced to 35-60 years in prison for the murder of 13-year-old Harris and received additional sentences for sexually assaulting children. Harris went missing after meeting Butts in Detroit in January 2024, and evidence suggested that Butts had groomed her since 2022. Butts was also linked to the unborn child Harris was carrying at the time of her death. He made searches related to abortions and anti-freeze before Harris disappeared. Despite Harris' body never being found, Butts provided information about her whereabouts as part of his plea agreement. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy emphasized the importance of providing closure to Harris' family through this disclosure. In addition to the murder charge, Butts faced charges for sexually assaulting five girls aged 4 to 13, with some incidents predating Harris' disappearance. Butts had a prior conviction for a sex crime involving a child.
