Meet Smokey XII: The Newest Face of the Vols!

Introducing Smokey XII, the newest mascot for the Vols! This two-year-old Bluetick coonhound, whose real name is Neyland, will make his official debut at the Orange and White game in Neyland Stadium on April 11. Neyland has been fostered at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine to prepare him for the rowdy crowds and game day atmosphere.
Dean Paul Plummer of UT's College of Veterinary Medicine expressed excitement about Neyland's journey to becoming Smokey XII, highlighting the heartwarming success story of this beautiful Bluetick Coonhound finding his forever family on Rocky Top. With training support from students and guidance from expert veterinarians, Smokey XII is ready to engage with Volunteer fans and bring joy wherever he goes.
Neyland's veterinarian, Zenithson Ng, described him as having a big personality and playful spirit. Through reward-based training, Neyland is mastering essential commands like sit, stay, and down. The upcoming Orange and White game will serve as a test of his readiness for the game day excitement of the 2026 football season, allowing him to interact with fans and handlers in a genuine setting.
In November 2025, UT announced the retirement of Smokey XI and the search for a new mascot. Now, with Smokey XII stepping into the spotlight, the Volunteer community eagerly anticipates the arrival of this lovable and spirited coonhound as the face of the Vols.
Get ready to welcome Smokey XII, the newest addition to the Volunteer family, as he brings his charm and energy to Neyland Stadium and beyond. With his playful nature and training progress, Smokey XII is poised to become a beloved mascot for the University of Tennessee, connecting with fans and spreading joy at every game and event.
