Philadelphia Phillies' Alec Bohm Files Lawsuit Against Parents Over Mishandling of Earnings

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has taken legal action against his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, accusing them of mishandling and misusing his professional earnings. The lawsuit, filed in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, seeks a judgment of at least $3 million, alleging that his parents diverted funds from his accounts for their own benefit. The dispute revolves around the use of limited liability companies (LLCs) set up by Bohm's parents to manage his wealth from his baseball career.
The conflict arose in 2019 after Bohm received a significant signing bonus as the third overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft. The lawsuit claims that his parents gained control over his finances by convincing him to grant them a 10% interest in two LLCs. Bohm alleges that they used this access to transfer assets into entities they controlled, leading to the legal action.
In response to the lawsuit, the parents have denied any wrongdoing through their legal representative. The situation escalated in 2024 when additional LLCs were formed for real estate investments. Bohm accuses his parents of providing misleading information about property liabilities and overstating costs. The relationship soured further when Bohm's request for financial statements and account access was met with resistance.
Instead of providing transparency, the parents informed Bohm that they would charge him for managing his affairs. The lawsuit aims to remove the parents' control over the LLCs and demands a formal accounting to assess the financial damages suffered by Bohm. Despite the personal turmoil, Bohm continues to play a key role in the Phillies' lineup, contributing to an Opening Day victory with a three-run home run.
Bohm is currently under a $10.2 million agreement for the 2026 season, a crucial year as he nears unrestricted free agency. The legal battle with his parents adds a layer of complexity to his professional career and personal life.
