Insights from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Voters: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Voting Process

Every year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame voters share their insights on the annual ballot with me anonymously. Their opinions range from thoughtful predictions to surprising admissions of unfamiliarity with certain artists like Kate Bush. It's always an exciting and unpredictable experience that I eagerly anticipate covering.
Having reported on music for many years, I was invited to join the Rock Hall's voting body in 2025. This is my second year participating in the voting process, and I take this responsibility seriously. While I didn't have a hand in selecting the 17 nominees on the shortlist, I carefully considered my choices and submitted a complete ballot of seven artists. Phil Collins may be a favorite of mine, but I made sure to diversify my selections to reflect the organization's values.
Among the nominees that made my final cut, I want to give a special mention to Luther Vandross, whose music I discovered thanks to the incredible jazz radio station WBGO. The nominees this year represent a diverse and talented group of artists, making it a challenging but rewarding task to choose the most deserving candidates for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
In conclusion, being part of the Rock Hall's voting body has been a privilege, allowing me to contribute to the recognition of influential artists in the music industry. I look forward to seeing which nominees will ultimately be inducted and celebrating their contributions to the world of music.
