Scotland-Spain Joint Investigation Leads to Arrests in Gangland Feud: The Inside Story

A joint investigation between police in Scotland and Spain led to a series of dawn raids resulting in the arrest of eight individuals in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, and West Lothian. Simultaneous raids were also conducted in Malaga and Barcelona by Spanish authorities. The operation, which predates the gangland feud involving Ross McGill's TMJ gang and Mark Richardson's crew, is not connected to the double execution in Fuengirola last May. The arrests were the culmination of over two years of investigative work involving multiple agencies, including the National Crime Agency and the Guardia Civil.

McGill's TMJ gang initiated a violent conflict in Scotland, targeting Richardson's associates and the Daniel crime clan. The feud escalated with firebombings and shootings, affecting Edinburgh and Glasgow. High-ranking members of the Daniel clan, such as Steven 'Bonzo' Daniel and Kelly 'Bo' Green, were targeted by McGill's gang. The Lyons mob also joined the conflict due to their historical rivalry with the Daniel clan. Despite the violence, police stated that the Costa Del Sol assassinations were not linked to the TMJ war.

The feud temporarily subsided during the summer months, with McGill, Steven Lyons, and Steven Larwood being arrested in Dubai and subsequently expelled from the UAE. McGill and Lyons were later apprehended in Qatar, while Larwood's whereabouts remain unknown. Operation Portaledge, conducted by Police Scotland, has resulted in the arrest of over 60 individuals related to the gang war, with some already serving lengthy prison sentences.
