The Mummy Returns: Original Cast Reunites for New Universal Pictures Film

Universal Pictures is bringing back the beloved Mummy franchise with a new installment that reunites the original cast. John Hannah, Brendan Fraser, and Rachel Weisz are set to star in the upcoming horror-adventure film. The project will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, known for their work on the recent Scream movies and Ready or Not. The script is penned by David Coggeshall, and plot details are currently under wraps.
The original Mummy movie, released in 1999, follows Fraser's character, a treasure hunter who accidentally awakens a powerful high priest in Egypt. Hannah played the role of the librarian's brother, a charming thief who always manages to come out ahead despite the chaos surrounding him. The new film is scheduled for release on May 19, 2028, with filming set to begin in London and Morocco later this year. As a treat for fans, Universal will re-release The Mummy Returns in theaters in 2026 to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Producer Sean Daniel, who worked on the original movies, is returning for the new installment alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment. Brendan Fraser and Jason F. Brown will serve as executive producers for the film. John Hannah, a seasoned British actor known for his roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Spartacus, will reprise his role in the upcoming movie. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting reunion of The Mummy cast.
