U2's Iconic Rooftop Performance: Behind the Scenes of 'Where the Streets Have No Name' Music Video

On March 27, 1987, U2 shot the music video for their song "Where the Streets Have No Name" from their album The Joshua Tree. Taking inspiration from The Beatles' rooftop concert in 1969, U2 performed on the roof of a liquor store in downtown Los Angeles. The production drew a crowd of over 1,000 fans, leading to police intervention, which added to the video's drama. U2 played an eight-song set during the shoot, with multiple performances of "Where the Streets Have No Name." The video later won U2 a Grammy for best performance music video.
