Police Apprehend Driver After Car Strikes Pedestrians in Derby City Center

A man has been taken into custody by the police after a car struck multiple pedestrians in Derby city center. The incident occurred on Friar Gate around 9:30 pm on Saturday, and the authorities apprehended a vehicle believed to be involved shortly thereafter. The driver, a man in his 30s, is currently in police custody. Derbyshire Police are urging anyone who witnessed a black Suzuki Swift being driven in Derby around the time of the incident to come forward.
Friar Gate has been completely shut down from the junction with Curzon Street/Cheapside up to Ford Street. The road closure is expected to last for a significant period, so it is advised to avoid the area entirely. Despite the unsettling nature of the situation, the police have stated that they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
