Remembering Trevor Oakes: A Tribute to Showaddywaddy's Founding Member

Trevor Oakes, a founding member of the Seventies glam rock band Showaddywaddy, has passed away at the age of 79 after a long illness. The band, known for their Fifties and Sixties classics, achieved success with hits like "Under the Moon of Love." Showaddywaddy, which still tours with only drummer Romeo Challenger remaining from the original lineup, had 15 Top Twenty hits during their peak years from 1974 to 1979. Dave Bartram, the former lead singer and current manager of the band, paid tribute to Oakes, highlighting his unique character and professional dedication.

Bartram expressed his gratitude for Oakes' friendship and reminisced about the shared memories over the past fifty-seven years. Oakes, described as a caring family man with a mischievous sense of humor, will be dearly missed by those close to him. The band has not disclosed further details about Oakes' illness or the cause of his death. Oakes, who was born in Leicester and initially worked as a press knife maker, left Showaddywaddy in 2009 due to health issues. He is survived by his two sons, Stefan Oakes and Scott Oakes, both of whom have had careers in professional football. The band has not provided information about Oakes' funeral arrangements.
