Designing the U.S.S. Enterprise-D: A Tribute to Pacifism and Elegance

The U.S.S. Enterprise-D from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" has a distinctive design that embodies pacifism with its soft, nonaggressive curves and elegant features. Designed by artist Andrew Probert, the Enterprise-D adhered to four design rules set by Gene Roddenberry, the creator of the show. Probert's initial sketch of the ship, which he created on a whim, caught the attention of the show's producers and ultimately became the iconic design of the Enterprise-D. Roddenberry had only two notes for Probert, requesting a longer ship and ensuring the bridge was prominently placed on top of the saucer section. The final design of the Enterprise-D stayed true to Probert's original vision, with minor adjustments based on Roddenberry's feedback.
