Cardiff City vs. FC Nantes: Legal Battle Over Emiliano Sala's Tragic Death

Cardiff City and FC Nantes are embroiled in a financial dispute over the tragic death of Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala in a plane crash in 2019. Sala was on his way to join Cardiff City from FC Nantes when the accident occurred, preventing him from playing for his new club.
Cardiff City has taken legal action against FC Nantes, claiming compensation for the financial losses and damages incurred as a result of Sala's death. The Nantes commercial court is set to deliver its decision on the matter soon.
Cardiff City argues that FC Nantes, through agent Willie McKay, was involved in organizing the private flight that Sala was on when the accident happened. They claim that the responsibility lies with the organization of the flight rather than the transfer itself.
FC Nantes, on the other hand, maintains that only the organizer of the flight, David Henderson, was convicted for his role in the accident. They argue that FC Nantes should not be held responsible for the tragedy.
The two clubs have presented their cases before the court, with Cardiff City seeking over 120 million euros in damages, while FC Nantes is demanding one million euros for moral damages. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) previously ruled that Sala's transfer was finalized before his death.
Despite the legal battle, both clubs have faced criticism for their handling of the situation, with accusations of negligence and instrumentalization of Sala's death. The outcome of the court's decision will determine the resolution of this long-standing dispute between Cardiff City and FC Nantes.
