Elvis Presley's Chart-Topping Reign: A Look Back at His Country Music Dominance in 1956

In November 1955, Sun Records, facing financial challenges due to the rapid success of Elvis Presley, sold his contract to RCA for $35,000. Shortly after, Presley dominated the country music charts with singles from both Sun Records and RCA, including "I Forgot to Remember to Forget" and "Heartbreak Hotel," securing the No. 1 position on all three country charts in the March 31, 1956, issue of Billboard. "Heartbreak Hotel" replaced "I Forgot to Remember to Forget" at the top spot on the Juke Boxes chart, marking the beginning of Presley's nine-week reign at the No. 1 position on the country charts.

During his chart-topping run, Elvis Presley also achieved significant success on the pop charts, holding the top position on four different charts simultaneously for several weeks. His dominance on the music scene was further recognized when he received Triple Play awards on the June 5 edition of Milton Berle's NBC-TV show for his chart-topping achievements in both country and pop genres. Additionally, Presley made a mark on the R&B charts, securing top five positions during the same period.

Later in the year, Elvis Presley continued his chart-topping success in the country genre by achieving another triple crown on September 29 and October 6 with his double-sided single "Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog." His unparalleled success across multiple music genres solidified his status as a music icon and a chart-topping sensation.
