FSIS Public Health Alert: Frozen Dinosaur-Shaped Chicken Nuggets Contaminated with Lead

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for frozen dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets that may contain unsafe levels of lead. The products were produced on February 10, 2026, and were distributed to Walmart locations nationwide. While a recall was not requested as the products are no longer available for purchase, FSIS is concerned that some consumers may still have them in their freezers.

The discovery of the lead contamination was made during routine surveillance sampling by a state partner. Lead exposure is particularly harmful to pregnant women, infants, and young children as it can affect brain and nervous system development. The lead levels in these chicken nuggets exceed the recommended interim reference level (IRL) set by the Food and Drug Administration, posing a risk to children and pregnant women.

Consumers who have purchased these chicken nuggets are advised not to consume them and should either dispose of the products or return them to the store where they were purchased. FSIS is actively investigating the issue, and additional products may be added to the public health alert. For more information on the health effects of lead consumption, consumers can visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.

If consumers have any questions about the public health alert, they can contact John Patrick Lopez, Vice President of Strategy, Communications & Government Affairs at Dorada Foods. For food safety inquiries, consumers can reach the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline or report any issues with meat, poultry, or egg products through the online Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System. It is crucial to prioritize food safety and take necessary precautions to avoid potential health risks associated with lead contamination in food products.
