The Last One For The Road" Emerges as Strong Contender at David di Donatello Awards

Francesco Sossai's second film, "The Last One For The Road," has emerged as a strong contender for Italy's prestigious David di Donatello Awards after its debut at Cannes' Un Certain Regard. The movie, which centers on two financially struggling individuals who befriend a reserved architecture student, has garnered an impressive 16 nominations in various categories. Scheduled for a U.S. release on May 1 at Lincoln Center and IFC Center in New York, the film is a production of Vivo film in collaboration with RAI Cinema (Italy), Maze Pictures (Germany), and Cecilia Trautvetter.

Among the top contenders for the David di Donatello Awards are Paolo Sorrentino's "La Grazia," featuring Toni Servillo, and Silvio Soldini's "The Tasters," a World War II drama. "La Grazia," which premiered at Venice, has received 14 nominations, while "The Tasters," which explores the story of German women tasked with tasting Hitler's food, has secured 13 nominations. Pietro Marcello's "Duse," starring Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi, and Mario Martone's film depicting a period in the life of feminist writer Goliarda Sapienza have both earned eight nominations each.

Additionally, Gabriele Mainetti's "The Forbidden City," set in Rome and centered around Kung-Fu, and Damiano Michieletto's Antonio Vivaldi biopic "Primavera" have each received seven nominations. The 71st edition of the David di Donatello awards is set to take place at Cinecittà on May 6.
