Zach Cregger and Zach Shields to Pen Screenplay for 'Gladys': The Prequel to 'Weapons

Zach Cregger and Zach Shields have been tapped to write the screenplay for the upcoming prequel to the successful horror film "Weapons." The project, currently known as "Gladys," will be produced by Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment. "Weapons" was a box office success, grossing over $270 million worldwide, with Amy Madigan winning an Academy Award for her role as Aunt Gladys, the main antagonist in the film.
In an interview before her Oscar win, Amy Madigan described Aunt Gladys as a confident woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to take unconventional measures to achieve her goals. Zach Shields, known for his work on films like "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" and "Godzilla vs. Kong," will be collaborating with Cregger on the screenplay for the prequel.
Shields has also worked in television, co-executive producing shows like "Lady in the Lake" and "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters." His play "Dad's Leg," a dark comedy about two sisters fighting over their father's amputated leg, ran at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles earlier this year. Cregger, on the other hand, is gearing up for the release of his film adaptation of the video game "Resident Evil" in 2026.
With the talented duo of Cregger and Shields on board, the prequel to "Weapons" is sure to be a thrilling addition to the horror genre. Fans can look forward to more insights into Aunt Gladys' character and the mysterious world of the film.
