Matt Reeves to Direct The Bonfire of the Vanities TV Show for Apple TV: What It Means for The Batman 3
Fans eagerly awaiting The Batman 3 were disappointed to hear that director Matt Reeves has other projects in the pipeline. Reeves is set to direct and executive produce a TV show adaptation of Tom Wolfe's novel, The Bonfire of the Vanities, for Apple TV. The show will be written by David E. Kelly and produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Sarah Geismer and Matthew Tinker also serving as executive producers.
The Bonfire of the Vanities, originally a serial in Rolling Stone in 1984, was later turned into a novel by Wolfe in 1987. A movie adaptation directed by Brian De Palma was released in 1990, starring Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis, Melanie Griffith, and Morgan Freeman. The story follows Wall Street executive Sherman McCoy, his girlfriend Maria, and tabloid reporter Peter Fallow as they navigate a scandalous incident that leads to a trial.
While Reeves is currently working on The Batman: Part II, set to start filming in London soon, the news of his involvement in The Bonfire of the Vanities TV show suggests that The Batman 3 may not be on the immediate horizon. Despite speculation about the timing of the third Batman movie, Reeves seems focused on his current projects before returning to Gotham City.
Rumors had circulated that James Gunn was advocating for an earlier release of The Batman 3 to avoid conflicting with other Batman projects. However, Gunn clarified that the information was incorrect and that there are no plans for a rushed release of the third installment in Reeves' Batman saga.
