USC Trojans' Spring Ball Recap: Recruiting Local Talent for Future Success

The USC Trojans welcomed a group of highly touted recruits to their practice session on April 3 as they wrap up their spring ball activities. The Trojans have been actively recruiting in the 2026 and 2027 cycles, aiming for a top five class and setting the stage for the 2028 class. Notable recruits from local schools Orange Lutheran and Long Beach Poly were in attendance, including five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou and four-star safety Gavin Williams from Sierra Canyon and Damien, respectively.

Fakatou, who has expressed interest in playing college football outside California, and Williams, who has visited USC twice this spring, are among the uncommitted prospects that caught the Trojans' attention. The team is making efforts to sway Fakatou's decision, while facing competition from Notre Dame and Washington for Williams. Additionally, four-star tight end Charles Davis from Westlake and three-star tight end Jace Cannon from San Mateo Serra made return visits to USC, along with other recruits like Reis Russell and Honor Fa'alave-Johnson.

The Trojans are focused on securing local talent, evident in their recruitment of 2028 prospects like four-star cornerback Ca'ron "Prime" Williams and four-star safety Jordan Hicks from Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo, respectively. Santa Margarita has been a key source of talent for USC, with several players from the school already on the roster. Hicks, a versatile defensive back, has taken notice of the trend of Southern California recruits choosing to stay home and play for USC. The Trojans are actively building a strong recruiting foundation in the region, aiming to attract top talent for the future.
