Georgia Bulldogs Welcome Ayla Guzzardo as New Women's Basketball Head Coach

Georgia has appointed Ayla Guzzardo as the new head coach of its women's basketball team, signing her to a five-year deal. Guzzardo's hiring comes after the departure of former head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, who mutually agreed to part ways with the Bulldogs. Abrahamson-Henderson had led Georgia to two NCAA Tournament appearances during her tenure, with an overall record of 69-59.

Georgia's athletic director, Josh Brooks, wasted no time in hiring Guzzardo, announcing her appointment less than 48 hours after Abrahamson-Henderson's departure. Guzzardo, a native of Hammond, Louisiana, previously coached at McNeese State, where she achieved great success, winning the Southland Conference's regular season title and setting a program record of 29 wins in her first season.

Before her time at McNeese State, Guzzardo coached at Southeastern Louisiana State, leading the Lions to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023. She has been named Southland Coach of the Year three times and has a strong track record of success in college basketball. Guzzardo's appointment marks a new chapter for the Georgia women's basketball program, which has a storied history under longtime coach Andy Landers.

With Guzzardo at the helm, Georgia aims to build on its recent successes and return to the upper echelon of women's college basketball. The Bulldogs have a rich tradition in the sport, with five Final Four appearances and eight SEC titles under Landers' leadership. Guzzardo's experience and coaching acumen make her a promising choice to lead the program to new heights.
