Steven Spielberg's Appreciation for Contemporary Films: From 'Godzilla Minus One' to 'Weapons

Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg has recently shared his admiration for several contemporary films in interviews. Among them are Takashi Yamazaki’s “Godzilla Minus One” and David Leitch’s “The Fall Guy.” Spielberg has also expressed his fondness for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” movies, particularly the second installment released in 2024.
In a recent interview with Empire, Spielberg discussed his appreciation for Zach Cregger’s 2025 horror hit “Weapons.” The film left such a strong impression on Spielberg that he hinted it may have deterred him from venturing into the horror genre himself. Despite his involvement in classic horror films like “Jaws” and “Poltergeist,” Spielberg seems hesitant to explore the genre further.
Spielberg’s upcoming film, “Disclosure Day,” is set to premiere on June 12th. As a filmmaker with a diverse portfolio spanning various genres, Spielberg’s admiration for contemporary works showcases his ongoing passion for cinema and storytelling.
