Matt Nathanson Pays Tribute to Billy Joel with 'Songs in the (M)Attic' EP

At a charity tribute concert for Billy Joel at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Matt Nathanson, known for his hit song “Come On Get Higher,” impressed fans with his performance. Inspired by the event, Matt has recorded an EP of Billy Joel’s songs titled Songs in the (M)Attic, a nod to Billy’s live album Songs in Attic. The six-track EP, set to release on April 17, features cover art reminiscent of Billy’s album The Nylon Curtain.

Expressing admiration for Billy Joel as one of the greatest songwriters, Matt shared his excitement for the EP on Instagram. The tracklist includes songs like “I Go to Extremes,” “Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway),” “Pressure,” “The Longest Time,” “Uptown Girl,” and “Only the Good Die Young.” Two tracks, “Uptown Girl” and “Only the Good Die Young,” are already available on digital platforms.

Matt immersed himself in Billy Joel’s music, referring to it as the “Joel Hole,” to appreciate the depth of Billy’s songwriting. The EP is open for preorders on vinyl, and Matt will join Train as an opening act during the summer tour. Notably, few artists have covered Billy Joel’s songs, with Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Barry White, and Beyoncé being among the few who have done so.
