The Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC supporting Senate Republicans, has revealed a $350 million plan to secure control of the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections. The group is focusing on key states like Alaska, Iowa, and Ohio, which are leaning towards the Republican Party as the elections become more competitive. The super PAC aims to defend Republican-held seats in Ohio, North Carolina, Maine, Iowa, and Alaska, while also targeting Democratic-held seats in Michigan, Georgia, and New Hampshire with a series of ads set to air in early September.
The Senate Leadership Fund plans to allocate $300 million for new spending across seven states this fall, with a significant portion dedicated to television, digital, and streaming ads. The group is prioritizing defending Republican-held seats by allocating $236 million compared to $106 million targeting Democratic seats. The super PAC's executive director, Alex Latcham, emphasized the importance of securing the majority in the Senate and expressed confidence in maintaining Senator John Thune as the majority leader.
Ohio and North Carolina are set to receive the most significant spending from the Senate Leadership Fund, with $79 million and $71 million allocated, respectively. In Ohio, the former seat of Vice President JD Vance is being defended by Senator Jon Husted against Democrat Sherrod Brown, while North Carolina sees a competitive race between former Governor Roy Cooper and Republican Michael Whatley. The super PAC is also investing in Iowa, where Senator Joni Ernst is retiring, and Alaska, where Senator Dan Sullivan faces a challenge from Democrat Mary Peltola.
