Idiots: Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. Star in Road Comedy Premiering August 28
Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s upcoming movie, previously titled The Shitheads, has been renamed Idiots for its theatrical release on August 28. The road comedy, directed by Macon Blair, premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and features a cast including Mason Thames, Peter Dinklage, Kiernan Shipka, and Nicholas Braun. The story follows Mark and Davis, played by Franco and Jackson, who are tasked with escorting a wealthy teenager to rehab.
Blair, known for The Toxic Avenger, both directed and wrote Idiots, with a production team that includes Franco, Alex Orr, and others. Executive producers for the film include Jackson, Danny McBride, and David Gordon Green. Despite initial attachment to the original title, The Shitheads, the team decided to stick with it, with Blair recalling how the name made producer Orr laugh during the early stages of development.
The film has received positive reviews, with critic Richard Lawson praising its magnetic pull and blend of comedy and contemplative moments. Idiots promises to deliver a unique and entertaining experience for audiences when it hits theaters later this year.
