James Gunn Considers Marisa Abela, Adria Arjona, and Ella Purnell for Key Role in Superman Sequel 'Man of Tomorrow

James Gunn is currently considering Marisa Abela, Adria Arjona, and Ella Purnell for a key role in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. The character in question is Maxima, a warrior queen from the planet Almerac who arrives on Earth seeking a suitable mate, with Superman catching her eye. Maxima has been portrayed in various ways in DC comics, from antagonist to ally and potential love interest for Superman.
Maxima has previously appeared in TV series like Smallville and Supergirl, as well as in animated shows, but has never been featured in a live-action DC film. Of the three actresses being considered for the role, Adria Arjona has experience in comic book adaptations, having appeared in the film "Morbius" and rumored for the role of Wonder Woman. Ella Purnell has been seen in projects like "Kick-Ass 2" and "Invincible."
The chosen actress for the role of Maxima will join a cast that includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The sequel will see the characters team up to face the alien threat Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. Other returning cast members include Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, and Sara Sampaio, with Aaron Pierre joining as John Stewart/Green Lantern.
