Seattle Kraken Leadership Transition: Ron Francis Steps Down, Jason Botterill Takes the Helm

The NHL is experiencing changes in leadership as the Seattle Kraken announced that Ron Francis will step down as president of hockey operations at the end of the 2025-26 season. Jason Botterill will take over as the executive vice president and general manager. Francis, who became the first general manager of the Kraken in 2019, led the team into its inaugural season and was promoted to president of hockey operations last year.
Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke expressed gratitude for Francis' leadership and vision in building the franchise from scratch. Under Francis, the Kraken made the playoffs once in five seasons, reaching the second round in 2022-23. However, the team has struggled in the current season and is out of playoff contention.
Francis reflected on his time with the Kraken, highlighting the culture, achievements, and support from fans. Before joining Seattle, Francis was with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011 to 2018. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007 for his playing career, which spanned 23 seasons with Hartford/Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Toronto, where he won two Stanley Cups.
The transition in leadership marks a new chapter for the Seattle Kraken as they look towards the future under Botterill's guidance. With a strong foundation of draft picks and promising prospects, the team aims to build on past successes and continue to grow in the NHL.
