Melissa Gilbert Addresses Past Allegations Involving Husband Timothy Busfield: A Closer Look at Their Relationship and Legal Challenges
Melissa Gilbert recently addressed the past allegations involving her husband, Timothy Busfield, stating that she was aware of them before they got married in 2013. During an interview on Good Morning America, Gilbert mentioned two previous accusations against Busfield dating back to the 1990s and 2012. She emphasized that she had discussed these allegations with Busfield when they started their relationship and was not blindsided by his past.
Gilbert revealed that she had conversations with Busfield about the allegations and believes his side of the story, which she considers to be the truth. While Busfield plans to address the older accusations publicly at some point, Gilbert clarified that it is not happening at the moment. The earlier incidents resurfaced after Busfield was indicted in February on four felony counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor related to his work on The Cleaning Lady.
One of the prior allegations involved a 17-year-old extra on the film Little Big League in 1994, while the other accusation stemmed from a 2012 incident at a movie theater in Los Angeles. Busfield denied both claims, with the 1994 case resulting in a legal dispute that was settled without criminal charges. The 2012 allegation did not lead to prosecution due to limited evidence, according to prosecutors.
Despite the legal challenges, Gilbert has stood by Busfield, describing his arrest as a traumatic experience for both of them. She has defended him in various public statements and court filings, portraying him as her "sweet husband." Busfield pleaded not guilty to the felony charges and is set to face trial in May 2027.
