The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Viking Gustafsson Nyberg to a two-year entry-level contract starting in the 2025-26 season. Gustafsson Nyberg, a 22-year-old native of Stockholm, Sweden, recently played for the Iowa Wild in the AHL, where he recorded an assist, two penalty minutes, and a plus-1 rating in two games. He also had a successful season at the University of Connecticut, tallying 11 assists, 47 shots, and 26 penalty minutes in 37 games. Gustafsson Nyberg led UConn in plus/minus rating and was a key contributor to the team's success in reaching the Hockey East Championship game and the NCAA Tournament. During his time at UConn and Northern Michigan, he accumulated a total of 21 points, 83 shots, 53 penalty minutes, and 113 blocked shots.

Before his college career, Gustafsson Nyberg played for Leksands IF J20 in the Swedish Junior League, where he showcased his skills as a defenseman and served as an alternate captain.
