Snow Plow Driver Charged in Fatal I-70 Crash: Colorado State Patrol Announces Traffic Violation Charges

A snow plow driver involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 70 in Clear Creek County, Colorado, earlier this year has been charged with multiple traffic misdemeanors and infractions by the Colorado State Patrol. The driver, Colton Weidman, 29, from Littleton, was driving westbound on I-70 when he lost control, crossed the median, and collided with a sprinter van carrying a youth hockey team in the eastbound lanes. The crash resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries to the van occupants. Weidman was unharmed in the incident.

The incident occurred on the morning of January 29 near the Herman Gulch exit on I-70. The snowplow driven by Weidman veered out of control, broke through the cable rail, and entered the eastbound lanes, where it struck a Toyota Tacoma before colliding with the van. The van, carrying a 12uAA girls hockey team from the SC Flyers in Santa Clarita, California, went off the road, resulting in injuries to eight occupants, including five children, and the death of the van driver, Manuel Alejandro Lorenzana Villegas, 38, from Chatsworth, California.

Following a thorough investigation, Weidman has been charged with various traffic misdemeanors and infractions related to the crash. The charges were announced by the Colorado State Patrol 70 days after the tragic incident. The collision had a significant impact on the victims and their families, highlighting the importance of safe driving practices and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
