Father and Son Arms Dealers: 'Lords of War' Sequel Set for 2027 Release

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2005 crime thriller "Lord of War," titled "Lords of War," has been acquired by Vertical for a U.S. release in 2027. The film, written and directed by Andrew Niccol, will see Nicolas Cage returning as arms dealer Yuri Orlov. In this installment, Orlov discovers he has a son, Anton (played by Bill Skarsgård), who is assembling a mercenary army to rival his father's, leading to a tense father-son rivalry amidst the backdrop of America's involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts.

Produced and financed by Vendôme Pictures, the movie also features Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis. Filming recently concluded in Morocco, and Vertical plans to showcase footage at CinemaCon for theater exhibitors. The original film's producers, Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi, returned to produce "Lords of War," with Niccol and Cage serving as producers as well. Skarsgård, Alice Dawson, Graham Taylor, Christopher Slager, Rich Goldberg, and Peter Jarowey are credited as executive producers.

Niccol expressed his excitement about delving deeper into the character of Yuri Orlov, played by the charismatic Nicolas Cage, and introducing his son, Anton, portrayed by the equally captivating Bill Skarsgård. The film explores the world of mercenaries, revealing that Anton is not seeking to rectify his father's actions but rather surpass them in a thrilling narrative of ambition and rivalry.

Vendôme Pictures and CAA Media Finance facilitated the deal for the filmmakers, while international sales are managed by FilmNation Entertainment. With an intriguing premise and a stellar cast, "Lords of War" promises to be a gripping continuation of the original film, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the complex world of arms dealing and conflict.
