MLB Teams Celebrate Grateful Dead with Special Theme Nights in 2026 Season

Major League Baseball (MLB) teams are gearing up to celebrate the iconic music of the Grateful Dead with special theme nights throughout the 2026 season. From coast to coast, teams are planning to pay tribute to the legendary San Francisco jam band by offering limited edition merchandise and hosting live concerts by local Grateful Dead cover bands.
The festivities are set to kick off this month as the Kansas City Royals (4/20) and St. Louis Cardinals (4/24) will host Grateful Dead nights during their home games. Fans attending these games can look forward to receiving exclusive vest and t-shirt giveaways, as well as enjoying performances by local acts Better Off Dead and Jake's Leg as part of a special ticket package.
Next up, the Washington Nationals will join the celebration on May 1st with a hoodie giveaway that promises to be one of the standout Grateful Dead-themed items of the season. The tribute to Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and the rest of the band members will surely be a hit with fans.
In July, more MLB teams will continue the Grateful Dead festivities, with the Chicago White Sox (7/28) and Colorado Rockies (7/31) hosting their own theme nights. The Colorado Rockies will offer t-shirts and a pre-game concert by local tribute band Shakedown Street at McGregor Square near Coors Field. August will see the Texas Rangers (8/3) and Baltimore Orioles (8/5) hosting their own Grateful Dead nights, coinciding with the "days between," a special period observed by Deadheads.
Interestingly, the San Francisco Giants, the Dead's hometown team, do not currently have a Grateful Dead night scheduled. However, other unique musical celebrations are also taking place around the 2026 MLB season, such as KISS night at the Tampa Bay Rays (7/9) and Prince night at the Minnesota Twins (6/4), where fans can snag a Prince/Twins varsity jacket.
The trend of theme nights honoring jam bands has been on the rise in professional sports, with the Philadelphia Flyers hosting the NHL's first-ever Phish night this year. The New York Rangers also celebrated the iconic jam band at Madison Square Garden. As the worlds of sports and music continue to intersect, fans can expect more Grateful Dead nights at MLB games in the future.
