Nickelodeon Animation Studios Integration: A Strategic Move by CBS and Paramount Cable Assets

The consolidation of CBS and Paramount cable assets under George Cheeks, Chair of TV Media, is progressing. Following the integration of BET Studios into CBS Studios, Nickelodeon Animation Studios will now operate as a label within the David Stapf-led TV studio. This move aligns all production units under Cheeks' expanded portfolio post the Skydance merger into CBS Studios.

In an internal memo obtained by Deadline, Cheeks announced the restructuring and appointed Alec Botnick as President of Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Ashley Kaplan, who previously co-ran the animated studio with Botnick, will transition to a consultant role, focusing on special projects until the end of the year.

After taking on oversight of Paramount cable brands like MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and BET, Cheeks revealed leadership appointments for various divisions. Kaplan and Botnick were chosen to lead Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with Botnick tasked with overseeing the studio's evolution across digital, TV, and streaming platforms to cater to today's kids and families.

Jules Borkent will remain as EVP of global commercial partnerships and operations, maintaining oversight of Nickelodeon's Kids & Family business and strategy. Cheeks emphasized the importance of Alec's leadership in shaping Nickelodeon's future as they reimagine their approach to reaching preschoolers and evolving into a comprehensive cross-platform brand.
